Scottish Environment LINK is ...

Established in 1987, Scottish Environment LINK is the forum for Scotland's voluntary environment organisations - over 30 member bodies representing a broad spectrum of environmental interests with the common goal of contributing to a more environmentally sustainable society.

LINK provides a forum and network for its member organisations, enabling informed debate, and assisting co-operation within the voluntary environmental sector.

LINK assists communication between member bodies, government and its agencies and other sectors within civic society. Acting at local, national and international levels, LINK aims to ensure that the environment is fully recognised in the development of policy and legislation affecting Scotland.

LINK is a Scottish charity and a company limited by guarantee working to its Memorandum and Articles of Association (revised November 2006) and its Operating Principles (revised December 2006).

LINK is managed by a Board of Trustees and a core Staff of six (4.68 fte) and two project staff, together with a President.

LINK works largely through its Task Forces, groups of members and sometimes co-opted organisations working together on issues of mutual interest, exploring the environmental issues and developing advocacy strategies to promote these to other interests, the public and decision-makers.

LINK is represented on a number of stakeholder groups - see the current list of delegates for 2009-10.

Joint Campaigning

Save Scottish Seas logo In 2007, the LINK Marine Task Force launched a major campaign for a Scottish Marine Bill. The forthcoming Marine Bill is a unique opportunity to stop the deterioration of Scottish seas and to protect, restore and enhance our marine environment, IF it includes the right measures.
Visit the campaign website: www.savescottishseas.org or email the campaign officer.

The LINK Marine Task Force is also working together with the other Links in England, Northern Ireland and Wales to promote new effective marine legislation for all UK seas.

This major initiative has been possible through special funding from the Tubney Charitable Trust and Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and has allowed LINK to employ two new members of staff, a research and a campaign officer, devoted solely to the Marine Bill campaign.

The LINK Marine Bill Campaign is also supported by the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust (HWDT), Marine Conservation Society (MCS), NTS, RSPB, SWT, Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (WDCS) and WWF.

During 2003-07, the everyone campaign was supported by 24 Scottish environment groups within LINK as well as other partner organisations. The campaign aimed to help the one in ten people who belong to a LINK member organisation to voice their concerns and seek positive political action on major environmental issues in Scotland. To find out more about some of the things we did, contact our Information Officer.

How LINK is funded
