Carbon Accounting

LINK now publishes its first set of Carbon Accounts for financial year 2008-09.

Please note, we have tracked carbon emissions due to energy usage for heating and travel so far, and we will add waste and recycling data from 2009 onwards.

This data is based on the Climate Emissions Guidance which we commissioned in 2008, together with its companion document A Guide to Cutting Your Organisation's Climate Emissions.

Download a version of our Carbon Accounting spreadsheet, if you would like to use our work as a template for developing your own carbon accounting process!

This spreadsheet would obviously require customising for your own use, but it provides a simple generic structure for implementing carbon accounting, and contains the 2009 carbon conversion factors published by Defra which are recommended in the above guidance document.

By the way, LINK has saved more than 6 tonnes of annual carbon emissions since 2005-06 in our Perth office (and saved between £1,000 and £2,000 in annual energy bills) by investing in a replacement of the electrical heating in part of our building, and fully insulating the roof space. The return on investment was just 2.5 years! Read more details here.
