Learning for our Future:
Sustainable Development and Education

The United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2004 – 2014 puts a time frame on the challenge for education systems across the world to adapt to sustainable development.

Scotland has responded well. We have a comprehensive plan, Learning For Our Future, to meet the United Nation’s call for action. For example, over 95% of our primary schools are involved with Eco Schools, but much more has to be done with secondary schools.

LINK’s Public Event and Panel Discussion looked at the successes and discussed the next steps.

The speakers were:

  • Ann Finlayson, Education Commissioner for the Sustainable Development Commission.
  • Alistair Lavery, Hed of Education, RSPB
  • Professor Gerard Hastings, Director of the Institute of Social Marketing at the University of Stirling.
  • Simon Pepper OBE, LINK Honorary Fellow Chaired the Panel Discussions
