In May 2017 the Legal Strategy Group commissioned a report on the feasibility of an Environmental Rights Centre for Scotland, authored by Dr Ben Christman LLB, LLM, PhD, Dip LP.
The study found a clear need for a specialist environmental law centre to provide affordable legal representation, carry out public legal education, conduct research and advocacy and pursue strategic litigation.

The report recommendations are being taken forward through a new Environmental Rights Centre for Scotland, supported by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust. The centre launched on 20th January 2020 led by two new members of staff, Dr Shivali Fifield, Development Manager and Ian Cowan, Programme Manager.  See more about the centre on their newly launched website and contact them via email at You can read the full report on the Feasibility of an Environmental Rights centre Scotland below in Publications and the press release covering the launch of the centre here.
