John Mayhew was elected an Honorary Fellow of LINK in 2024. He died of brain cancer in November 2025 and we lost a much loved figure from our network. John worked with LINK throughout his long career, with the National Trust for Scotland and then latterly as CEO at APRS. He also served as Vice-Chair and then as Chair of LINK for five years until 2009. He served as President of two of our member bodies: Scottish Countryside Rangers Association and Scottish Campaign for National Parks. Throughout this entire period, John played a significant role in furthering the work of all the organisations he represented, but also the voluntary environmental sector as a whole. As such he is an effective advocate for Scotland’s environment, especially its nature and landscapes. He will be very much missed.
