LINK members held a workshop on peatlands on Friday February 21st 2014 and wanted to discuss two main issues of concern, consider what they feel strategy and policy should be on these topics, and agree how we’ll take that forward in terms of advocacy strategy. These two main issues are a) funding for peatland restoration both from public and private sources and b) peat extraction for horticulture use and alternatives. This is especially topical with the recent announcement from the Scottish Government earmarking £15 million over the next three years to peatland restoration. Whilst LINK members recognises there are other issues, such as wind farms, deer, forestry and burning, these will not be addressed on the day as they are already being covered elsewhere in the LINK network. We have attached the presentations of this workshop on our Members’ Page
