Naturescot’s Scientific Advisory Committee, Muirburn sub group, produced a report in 2023 on addressing the uncertainties in the evidence base on muirburn in developing a licensing approach. This report was updated with additional advice in January 2026 using updated knowledge of the relationships between wildfires, muirburn and peatlands.
